Judge Keila D. Cosme was appointed to the Sixth District Court of Appeals by Governor Ted Strickland on October 30, 2009, and she took the bench on November 16, 2009. She is the first Hispanic American to serve on any of Ohio's 12 district courts of appeals. Judge Cosme received her bachelor's degree from Boston University in 1990 and her JD degree from the Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in 1994.
Judge Cosme has devoted her professional life to advocating for the rights of working people and their families. She served as a partner with the law firm of Cosme, D'Angelo and Szollosi Co., L.P.A. from 2001 until her appointment in 2009. Judge Cosme was born and reared in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico in 1968. She is the first generation college graduate in her family. She moved to Massachusetts at age 17 to attend Boston University. There were many challenges along the road, including learning the language while attending college. Judge Cosme worked very hard to overcame those obstacles and completed a double bachelor’s degree program from B.U. in political science and sociology in just four years. During this time, she worked part time in the Office of Career Services at the College of Communications, and for the United States Department of Defense. |
